THE PROJECT 

The University of Essex, in partnership with Ticker Ltd, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to revolutionise the collection and utilisation of driver performance behaviour data through the application of leading-edge algorithmic and artificial intelligence approaches.

This post is fixed term for 24 months and is a remote first role.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include: 

  • Developing a novel scoring algorithm(s) to optimise the identification of different types of driver behaviour, specifically those with increased risk
  • Identifying external datasets to complement the data from Ticker Ltd. Performing data fusion on these disparate datasets
  • Deploying and testing the developed algorithm(s) on Ticker's extensive historical dataset
  • Applying state-of-the-art (SOTA) machine learning approaches
  • Contributing to publications and/or conference papers for the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering and Ticker Ltd
  • Participating in academic and/or industrial conferences and other events to disseminate and present research outcomes to the wider community
  • Aiding in embedding these insights into the systems of Ticker Ltd and helping upskill company staff
  • Managing computing resources for deployment and testing purposes
  • Communicating clearly and concisely with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, both internally and externally, with an understanding of pitching technical information to meet the varying needs and understanding of different stakeholders

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • BSc in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates currently pursuing a PhD or those with an MSc (accompanied by significant experience in Data Science/Analytics, data wrangling/interrogation) will also be considered.
  • Excellent knowledge of data science and machine learning methods.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python (Object-Oriented Programming), with a good understanding of coding practices.
  • Experience in frameworks like Numpy, SciPy, Pandas, SciKit-Learn and TensorFlow / PyTorch.
  • Understanding/experience of modern software development practices.
  • A solid mathematical background.
  • Ability to understand and follow current regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to help us surface the challenges we may face in bringing this project to life.
  • Ability to measure own output and identify potential objectives and key results required at each stage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
