As an assistant financial accountant you will work with other members of the Financial Accounting team to support the production of financial information for month-end and year-end management reporting and the production of indirect taxation returns for the University. You will also provide regular cashflow analysis and ensure that all transactions within the finance system are recorded in line with current financial reporting requirements, and taxation regulations to provide a sound foundation for the production of management information reporting and financial forecasts.

 What you will do : 

  • Support the production of monthly financial information to be used in the production of management reporting and to support in-year forecasting. To include the production of transaction analysis to ensure that balance sheet balances are correctly reported, including analysis of prepayments, accruals and receipts in advance and ensuring that capital additions are correctly reported.
  • Support the production of the annual financial statements, providing figures for the completion of various notes and accompanying analyses. Support the external audit, preparing schedules to support the figures reporting in the financial statements.
  • Provide support to the day-to-day management of relationships with bankers and investment brokers on behalf of the University. Monitoring balances in accounts on a regular basis to support the maximisation of returns on available resources.
  • Produce a weekly analysis of cashflow movements to assist with the production of short-term daily and weekly cashflow forecasting to support management decision making.

 What you will need :  

  • A Good standard of education to GCSE level, including GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • AAT Qualified or actively studying towards CCAB professional qualification (e.g. ACCA/CIMA), having completed at least foundation level.
  • Proven experience in financial or management accounting
  • A good understanding of current accounting policies and standards, including HE/FE SORP, and VAT regulations.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to balance conflicting priorities, meet challenging deadlines and work quickly and accurately under pressure with a high level of attention to detail.
