We seek to appoint a Course Director to oversee our Graphic Design and Illustration courses within Leeds School of Arts. The School offers an ideal environment for the development of critical, collaborative, and interdisciplinary design practices. Within this creative context the Art & Design subject area delivers undergraduate courses in: Graphic Design, Illustration, Product Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Fine Art; postgraduate courses: in Graphic Design, Fashion, Fine Art, 3D Design and a thriving community of PhD researchers.


The Leeds School of Arts at Leeds Beckett University has a rich and powerful history that dates back 170yrs to the original Leeds School of Art founded in 1846. With around 3,000 students studying 50 courses across the subject areas of Art & Design, Architecture, Music, Sound & Performing Arts, and Film & Creative Technologies, LSA is now one of the largest Higher Education Arts Schools in the North. The LSA is a pioneering and highly creative school which supports students to create, think and make while responding to the world around them. Our students work closely with our teaching staff, all experts in their field, across a range of subjects and we are a community of creatives, producing ambitious work in a rich and well-resourced learning environment.


Working with our dynamic course teams you will be responsible for the operational and day to day running of our Graphic Design and Illustration courses. Your area of expertise will be in Graphic Design, ranging from print to emerging technologies, with interdisciplinary experience of exploring the synergy between Graphic Design and Illustration. You will have extensive experience of course leadership, as well as teaching studio-based and theory or technology focused modules. You will have successfully completed a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design and have industry experience. You will be able to demonstrate excellence in the delivery of Graphic Design education through research informed teaching and an ability to develop skills in professional practice and entrepreneurship. You should have a strong research profile with current research outputs that can support our next REF submission. You will be a strong team player, demonstrate excellent skills in subject leadership, course and strategic developments, in team-working, organisation and management. You will be an advocate for responsible and inclusive practices and be a champion for promoting diversity and equality in Graphic Design and Illustration. You will be an inspiring, creative and enthusiastic academic.


Our dynamic studio-based courses address current debates in Graphic Design and Illustration. Our student-centred, socially aware approach encourages experimental practices which push the boundaries of design to support interdisciplinarity, whilst maintaining a strong focus on professional practice. Our integrated approach to practice and theory and commitment to relational and collaborative practices, values collegial working across the provision.
