We are seeking to recruit three individuals to the unique position(s) of Counsellor and Psychological Supporter, within the School of Medicine.
You will be part of our supportive and diverse team to provide a mixture of 1:1 counselling, group work and psychological support for our medical student population.
Specifically, you will support our students to navigate distress, life stressors and emotional experiences that may impact on them to fully engage with their medical studies and achieve their potential to be our future doctors.
Working with the Director of Student Wellbeing , a senior counsellor and our team of clinicians, academics, welfare officers and administrators you will contribute to the package of wellbeing provision for our medical students who are taught across the University and our clinical placement hospital sites.
We would welcome applications from individuals who are looking to expand their expertise, who understand the importance of diversity of experience and background to work creatively to help deliver an outstanding support experience.
You will be expected to hold ONE of the following:
a). A core counselling practitioner qualification as defined by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or equivalent (e.g., UK Council for Psychotherapy, UKCP, British Psychological Society, BPS).
OR
b). A practitioner training qualification – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) or Mentalisation-based Therapy (MBT).
Additionally, if not already held, you must also be willing to work towards accreditation by an awarding body (e.g. BACP, UK Council for Psychotherapy, UKCP, British Psychological Society, BPS).
For further details about the role, please see the role profile.
These positions are offered on a part-time, permanent basis (0.6 of a full-time equivalent, working 21.75 hours per week), with the working pattern to be negotiated.
Hybrid working according to the University policy will be considered and much of the client interaction will be online, however, we aim to provide some online counselling sessions outside usual core hours (07:30-9:00 or 18:00-20:00) to enable access for our students outside their scheduled timetabled responsibilities. There may also be times when you may need to work from campus or our NHS placement sites where appropriate.
The School of Medicine recognises the importance of continuous professional development and clinical supervision and of providing opportunities, structured support and encouragement to engage in professional development.
As a University of Nottingham employee, you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes and annual leave allowance (plus additional university closure days) and a highly attractive pension scheme. You can find out more about our benefits by visiting Your benefits .
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Pamela Hagan , email [email protected] . Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
It is a condition of this post that satisfactory enhanced disclosure is obtained from the 'Disclosure and Barring Service'.
