Cranfield University’s world-class expertise, large-scale facilities and unrivalled industry partnerships is creating leaders in technology and management globally. Learn more about Cranfield and our unique impact here .

An exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate has arisen as part of a collaborative project between CorrosionRADAR and Cranfield University. The project will focus on supporting the development of data-driven risk based corrosion models that can assess how materials and coatings degrade in a ‘corrosion under insulation’ (CUI) situation.

About CorrosionRADAR

With the development of its patented predictive corrosion technology , CorrosionRADAR (www.corrosionradar.com ), also referred to as CR, is one of the fastest growing companies in the sphere of Industry 4.0. The organisation is an important enabler for asset digitalisation, delivering safer and more sustainable operations to the energy sector. CorrosionRADAR aims to make a significant impact in reducing the industrial carbon footprint in the race for a net-zero future.

Founded in 2017 and established in the global marketplace, we are at the forefront of delivering game-changing solutions for tackling corrosion, the biggest failure mechanism in the world. Our primary focus is the development of sensors, IIoT based remote monitoring systems and predictive analytics for some of largest energy companies globally. Our proprietary predictive algorithms and corrosion monitoring systems are leading an era of predictive rather than reactive maintenance programmes.

Having secured significant investment from the world’s largest energy company, and supported by major energy companies, we are ready for our next stage of growth, taking us to the next planned milestone. The CorrosionRADAR family is growing and we are looking for like-minded people to join us on this exciting journey!

Working for CorrosionRADAR is not only a job, it is an opportunity to be part of a fun, passionate, diverse, driven team and to work in a great environment that is intellectually stimulating, varied and rewarding. You will join the founders and an established staff of experienced and respected high achievers from the engineering and business sectors, all of whom are at the forefront of their fields.

You will be based at CorrosionRADAR, in Cambridge, and will work closely with Cranfield University, spending time at the University’s analytical facility suite. Cranfield University uses its strong industrial background and specialisation in transformative research to deploy current world-leading corrosion knowledge for real world application.

About the Role

You will lead the development of data-driven risk based models for later inclusion into the custom analytical packages that CorrosionRADAR deploys alongside their proprietary predictive corrosion monitoring solution. The associated research will be carried out in collaboration with experienced materials and corrosion science academics at Cranfield University and the engineering team at CorrosionRADAR, and will enable client industrial companies to actively pursue novel predictive maintenance strategies.

Your role will include:

  • Development of corrosion rate and coating life models using data from a combination of published sources and practical experimentation.
  • Integrating corrosion models and algorithms with CorrosionRADAR’s solutions.
  • Supporting integration into risk analytics modules to enabling the assessment of risks due to the degradation of materials and coatings in a corrosion under insulation environment.
  • Creation of a database to help move corrosion related maintenance from reactive to predictive.

About You

You will have knowledge of corrosion and/or materials science and will work with a team of sensor technology specialists and a software engineer to develop the corrosion risk-based assessment software module. Knowledge of corrosion under insulation, asset integrity management practices especially in the oil & gas sector along with statistics (e.g. principal component analysis and partial least squared regression) would also be desirable. This role would suit an individual with excellent research, project management, and team working skills. You will hold a Masters level degree or higher in materials science, corrosion, mechanical engineering or a related subject.

In return you will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key technical position and will be at the forefront of deploying academic research to industry, joining a supportive team and an innovative company environment.
