The position is initially a limited contract for two years, with the possibility of extension and partial conversion to a permanent contract.
As a Core Facility at the University of Vienna, we combine scientific and technical-methodological expertise to enable the shared use of major research instruments - making excellent research even better and more visible. If you would like to help us build on this mission and are passionate about microscopy, we warmly welcome you to the team!
Your personal sphere of influence:
Life Sciences, with all subdisciplines, are represented by one of the largest faculties at the University of Vienna. Correspondingly, the user base is large and a wide variety of projects are brought to the Imaging Core Facility. Our wide range of imaging capabilities, from macroscopy and confocal microscopy to electron microscopy, supports this breadth. You will be part of a team that works across the full spectrum of biological systems to find the best imaging solutions.
We are looking for you to support and guide international students and researchers in light, fluorescence and confocal microscopy projects. The Imaging Facility is planning to expand its service portfolio beyond the current eight instruments to include experimental planning and image analysis. This is where your organisational skills, solution-oriented mindset and intercultural competence will truly come into their own.
Your future tasks:
- Provide methodological and experimental support as well as technical training to researchers, including troubleshooting
- Carry out independent quality control and routine servicing of instruments; assist with maintenance and repairs
- Advance imaging methods, particularly in the areas of image processing and analysis
- Contribute to practical courses and teaching in the field of light microscopy
- Support lab management and administration (e.g. booking platform)
This is part of your personality:
- You have completed several semesters of study in life sciences or a related field, ideally with a focus on botany.
- You have professional or project-based experience in light, fluorescence or confocal microscopy. Experience of working in a scientific core facility environment is a plus.
- You have initial teaching or training experience and are keen to develop it further.
- Your reliability and interpersonal skills make you a strong team player with a distinct service-oriented approach.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both German and English.
What we offer:
Work-life balance: Enjoy flexible, employee-friendly working hours with the option to work remotely by arrangement.
Inspiring work environment: Be part of a dedicated team with a varied and responsible range of tasks in an appreciative and supportive workplace.

Fair salary: The basic gross salary is EUR 3,131.30 per month (full-time equivalent, paid 14 times per year) and may increase if relevant professional experience is taken into account. (Initially fixed-term contract for two years, with the option of conversion to a permanent contract by mutual agreement.)
