The Faculty of Science and Engineering is looking to appoint a Band 4 Computer Science Technician on a 3-year fixed term contract.

The role holder will be a member Technical Services Team and support the needs of the Department of Computer Science & Technology on the main campus and activities at the Aura Innovation Centre (AIC) based at Bridge Head on the outskirts of Hull.  

They will also provide support to the Institute of Technology, a partnership led by York College which includes the University of Hull, York St John University, six FE Colleges and four employers, and hopes to nurture highly-skilled employees in the STEM subjects.  

As one of the anchor higher education partners, the University will take a leading role in the applied research elements of the IoT as well as support curriculum development and college teaching staff through short courses and research masters.  

The role will involve:

  • Setting up and monitoring of equipment used in the IoT laboratories, the AIC and within the Computer Science & Technology department which will include such equipment as:
  • Microsoft Hololens2.
  • HTC Vive Pro Eye.
  • Oculus Quest/Quest 2.
  • Small scale Autonomous Vehicle.
  • Maintaining the inventory system, keeping track of equipment loans and ensuring equipment is safe to use.
  • Assisting with both UG and PG activities within our teaching and research laboratories, both on and off campus.
  • Maintain equipment and undertake minor repairs of equipment, including and health and safety issues.
