The Department of Imaging Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary Department for neuroimaging excellence. We bring together clinicians and scientists who study higher cognitive function using neuroimaging techniques. Our goal is to understand how thought and perception arise from brain activity, and how such processes break down in neurological and psychiatric disease. The Department studies all aspects of higher cognitive function and develops cutting edge data acquisition and analysis methods.

We are now establishing a globally impactful Discovery Research Platform for Naturalistic Neuroimaging. By developing the next generation of hardware and software tools for naturalistic neuroimaging we will expand the breadth of neuroscience experiments that can be conducted while people engage in more natural everyday behaviours. You will be part of the Platform’s multi-disciplinary team and work collaboratively to achieve this ambitious aim.

A key responsibility of the role will be to oversee the computational infrastructure needs of the Platform. This includes designing, sourcing, deploying, managing and supporting the computational infrastructure required to store, handle and process the high volumes of imaging, behavioural and peripheral data that will be produced by the Platform. It will also require optimisation and refinement of the Department’s high-performance computing (HPC) and GPU-accelerated processing capabilities.

The role is available immediately and funded by Wellcome for three years in the first instance.

You will be an enthusiastic, technically able, and highly collaborative individual. We offer a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of neuroscience research investigating real-world cognition and to work with some of the world’s leading neuroscientists and their research groups.

You will have a degree in a numerate discipline or significant relevant experience, and substantial experience of administering and troubleshooting Linux systems and Windows system administration.

Additionally, you should be experienced in at least two of the following areas:

  • Servers and storage of large volumes of data (>100 TB)
  • GDPR and working with identifiable data
  • HPC systems
  • GPU-enabled processing
  • IP networking technologies (DNS, DHCP, NFS, SMB)
