Computational Biology/Informatics Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity for a Computational Biology/Informatics Assistant to join the Oxford Genomics Centre (OGC) at Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

You will be responsible for running appropriate and timely high-throughput genomic data processing and quality control report pipelines. You will provide day-to-day support, documentation and end-user training for reliable functioning of OGC’s key internal systems (LIMS, CRM etc.), and assist with data delivery, storage and management. You will contribute to the development of web interfaces for the management of OGC projects, and complete standard IT system maintenance tasks including troubleshoot and resolving networking, software, hardware issues, and consideration of security, resilience, and disaster recovery.

It is essential that you hold a degree in a biological or engineering sciences with experience in an informatics and data management. You will have experience in programming (with python or R) and experience of working in a Linux/UNIX environment and scripting skills, and in data management and/or relational databases. You will have a good understanding of desktop and server computing technologies, and experience in data presentation including the ability to present complex information concisely and clearly to people from different backgrounds. It is essential that you have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, and are able to work as part of a team, with the ability to interact with colleagues with a variety of backgrounds.
