We are looking for a Communication & Recruitment Co-ordinator to join the Generation Scotland team.

The Opportunity:

The post holder will be responsible for supporting projects within the Generation Scotland portfolio which is a prestigious, high profile programme and includes interdisciplinary grants in health data science. The postholder will provide research support to the Operations Manager, other members of the study team and the Principal Investigator in all aspects of a project funded by The Wellcome Trust, “Next Generation Scotland (NextGenScot)”, which aims to build upon the proven success and research value of Generation Scotland (GS). The Recruitment Co-ordinator will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, led by the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators at the University of Edinburgh. The Recruitment Co-ordinator will be responsible for planning, organising and monitoring the recruitment of 20,000 participants in the NextGenScot study as well as maintaining the engagement of all Generation Scotland participants. They will be responsible for researching and applying recruitment and retention techniques, which are adjusted to the study setting and NextGenScot participant age range (adolescent to old age). The post-holder will also coordinate communications of scientific outputs arising from GS. Finally, they will be responsible for creating and implementing a public awareness campaign designed to encourage participation and raise the profile of Generation Scotland: NextGenScot with stakeholders, regulators, funders and the public. The success of these tasks is critical to the success of Generation Scotland.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Appropriate degree in a scientific discipline, with relevant post-graduate experience. Normally a PhD or equivalent professional qualification (pending/assumed completed at time of application can be considered) and/or relevant experience.
  • Proven experience with design and implementation of processes and materials for the recruitment and retention of patients/healthy volunteers to research studies, and of the associated collection of data and samples, e.g. in clinical trials, social science or population-based studies.
  • Experience of public engagement, Patient and Public Involvement and event organisation.
  • Experience of science communications including communicating complex scientific concepts to the public and working with the press.
  • Excellent management and organisational skills with the ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks, prioritise to meet deadlines, and to solve problems as they arise with minimum supervision.
