College Post-Doctoral Associate Competition 2024

Updated: about 4 hours ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND

Jesus College intends to appoint up to eight College Post-doctoral Associates (CPDAs) on or before 1 October 2024. At the time of appointment applicants should normally have a doctorate or the expectation of one shortly and may be graduates of any university. They must at the time of appointment, and for the duration of the appointment, be employed by the University of Cambridge or an affiliated institution in a post-doctoral research role. Applicants should have spent no more than five years in a postdoctoral role, but we encourage applications from candidates who exceed this limit due to personal circumstances, for example, because of a career break for caring or other personal responsibilities. Preference will be given to applicants who intend to be resident in Cambridge for most or all of their period of appointment. There are no conditions of age or subject attached to these positions, but candidates would normally be early in their research career and not yet in a tenured post. All appointments will be based on merit.

CPDAs will be selected by reference to their ability to contribute to the intellectual and educational life of the College. The principal areas in which it is hoped that CPDAs will normally make such contributions are: (i) in support of the College’s research activities, including giving seminars and providing advice and guidance to research students; (ii) where opportunities arise, in undergraduate teaching through supervisions; (iii) in support of the College’s outreach and widening participation work; and (iv) in support of the activities of the College’s Development & Alumni Relations Office, e.g. giving ‘public interest’ lectures to groups of alumni or writing articles about their research for College publications.

The CPDA position will normally be tenable for a period of three years. Applications from candidates with guaranteed funding that ends before 30 September 2026 will not normally be considered. No stipend or honorarium is payable. CPDAs will have access to a shared office space within College. The dining rights of CPDAs are up to two free dinners per week and one free lunch per week, with up to two guests at dinner (the first of whom would be at College expense) and one guest at lunch at College expense; CPDAs are also invited to a number of College events. Any supervision work carried out for the College will be paid for at the standard rates plus the same mark-up as is applicable to Bye-Fellows of the College.

Application forms may be obtained by email from [email protected] or from the College website www.jesus.cam.ac.uk/college/people/vacancies . Applications must be received by 1 pm on Monday 10 June 2024. The application should include your curriculum vitae, and a statement of not more than 500 words, intelligible to academics in a completely different discipline, outlining present and future research and/or teaching plans, and a second statement of not more than 200 words setting out the area(s) in which you would hope to contribute to the intellectual and educational life of the College. Two references are required, which must also arrive at the College, preferably by email to [email protected] , by the above date.

Interviews are expected to be held on Monday 1st July 2024.
