About the role

We are looking for an innovative and creative individual who has a genuine interest in marketing and can provide and deliver an outstanding level of marketing support to join the team.

Working within the College Marketing Team in the External Relations department, the role of College Marketing Officer will primarily support the marketing needs of the College Health, Psychology and Social Care. 

The successful candidate will be involved in the creation and delivery of brand awareness, lead generation marketing campaigns, with a core focus on undergraduate and postgraduate student recruitment through effective paid media, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) marketing, events, and schools and college liaison activity.

You will also have responsibility for delivering effective conversion activity, including Open Days and Applicant Days for prospective students, to nurture applicants through the marketing funnel and provide a seamless customer journey. The ability to effectively manage a busy and varied workload, and liaise with wider teams in order to implement projects and support with activating our marketing campaigns strategy is essential.

Principal accountabilities
  • Support Strategic Communications Business Partner in the planning and delivery of all aspects of brand awareness, lead generation and conversion marketing campaigns.
  • Deliver marketing campaigns that will encompass, amongst other things; paid digital and traditional media, CRM, content development, direct mail, social media, publications, events and sponsorships.
  • Work with University Colleges and academic teams to support the planning and delivery of Open Days, recruitment fairs and schools and colleges events.
  • Understand our course offer, their Unique Selling Points (USPs), the target market, the wider recruitment environment and competitor activity in order to support campaign development.
  • Develop strong working relationships with University College Academic teams to understand the full University of Derby portfolio and research activity and to implement recruitment activities as required.
  • Develop strong working relationships with external and in-house Content, Design and Digital delivery teams to develop assets and ensure campaign briefs are met and delivered on time and to set budgets.
  • Support the tracking, analysis and reporting of all campaigns activity against agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), drawing conclusions and making recommendations for future campaign delivery.
  • Understanding of how to use the University CRM database and segmentation to send tailored communications to target audiences.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-University strategies through intelligence gathering, analysing the market and making recommendations to senior colleagues.
  • Write copy for a range of marketing outputs, from digital profiles and adverts to social media entries and publications content.
  • Act as website CMS moderator, taking responsibility for the proofing of all copy, ensuring it is informed by insights, fit for purpose and accurate.
  • Play an integral role in the planning, creation and seeding out of campaign content, including video production and editing, blogs, photography and case studies.
  • Regularly meet with other Marketing Officers across the department to share best practice and ensure the optimisation of activities.
  • Support the establishment of effective marketing models and protocols through implementing best practice and rolling this out across the University.
  • Ongoing liaison and administration with marketing, academic and professional support colleagues across the University to ensure all campaign activities are co-ordinated effectively.
  • To be a positive ambassador for the University, representing it at events including Open Days, recruitment fairs and Schools and Colleges visits.

    Qualifications
    • Relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) or equivalent work experience

    Experience
    • Experience of developing and delivering effective integrated marketing campaigns – using both traditional and digital marketing methods
    • Experience of digital marketing including website development and social media activities
    • Experience of managing multiple projects and keeping key stakeholders regularly updated on progress
    • Experience of reviewing campaign activity, reporting on outcomes and making recommendations to senior colleagues
    • Experience of providing marketing advice to non-marketing colleagues

    • Willingness and flexibility to travel and work between University and external sites in a cost effective and timely manner
    • Willingness and ability to work out of hours, evenings and weekends on occasion, particularly at Open Days/events

    • CIM qualification or equivalent experience
