COLLEGE LECTURESHIP (COLLEGE ASSISTANT PROFESSOR) AND FELLOW IN LAW

Contract: Full-time or part-time
Salary range: £34,980 - £42,978 (pro rata if applicable)

Homerton College invites applications for a College Lectureship (College Assistant Professor) in Law with effect from 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post will be available on a permanent basis. The person appointed will be elected to a Fellowship at Homerton College, coterminous with the qualifying office of College Lecturer.

The College especially welcomes applicants interested in part-time appointments, including practising lawyers, but can appoint up to a full-time role for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide small-group (supervision) teaching in at least one of the following ‘core’ papers: Constitutional Law, Civil Law I (Roman Law), Land Law, Contract Law, Equity, and EU Law. If the successful candidate teaches only one of those papers, they must be able to offer supervisions in another paper from the Law Tripos (see ba.law.cam.ac.uk/ ), other than Criminal Law and Tort Law. The College especially welcomes applicants who can teach more than one ‘core’ paper, and especially Land Law or Equity.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to support the subject within the College as a Director of Studies, which includes helping with undergraduate admissions and other college duties. Service as director of studies is separately remunerated at £830 p/a base rate plus £130 p/a per student.  There will also be a reasonable expectation that the post-holder will be research active in their speciality.

The person appointed would be encouraged to participate fully in the intellectual and social life of both the College and the University of Cambridge Faculty of Law. It is common for College Teaching Officers to contribute to the teaching of Faculty lecture courses within their area of interest, whether at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

In return, we offer:

  • Generous pension scheme (USS) and 3x death in service benefit
  • Enhanced Parental leave
  • Occupational sick pay scheme
  • Nursery workplace scheme, depending on places
  • One meal when on duty and other dining rights
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Free parking (subject to availability)
  • Subsidised College gym
  • Discount on staff accommodation for up to 3 years, depending on availability
