The role: The CoSTAR National Lab Digital Communications Officer is a key part of the MarComms Team, working closely with the Head of Marketing & Communications to deliver the marketing & communications strategy and activities for an ambitious R&D and innovation programme. You will work in a creative, inclusive and dynamic environment where you will be responsible for creating, experimenting, promoting and analysing all digital communications platforms and content. 

About the CoSTAR National Lab : Royal Holloway, University of London, has been announced as the lead organisation to run the CoSTAR National Lab, a £51.1m investment by the UK Government to ensure the UK’s screen and performance industries have the infrastructure and the skills to stay ahead.

By bringing together world leaders in technology, research and story, we will catalyse innovation for the UK’s Creative Industries. Partnered with Pinewood Studios, BT, Disguise & Surrey County Council, the CoSTAR National Lab will place R&D at the heart of UK storytelling and storytelling at the heart of R&D. Our Lab will include dedicated Stage and Studio space, featuring advanced creative computing technologies including AI, virtual production and 5G systems. Our consortium brings together world-leading research teams from media production, psychology, business and drama at Royal Holloway, AI at University of Surrey; and Creative Technology at Abertay University; and professional training at the National Film & Television School.

What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Imagining, creating, experimenting and curating a wide range of written, visual and A/V content for all CoSTAR National Lab digital communications platforms
  • Documenting and showcasing the development and outputs of the new CoSTAR National Lab to key businesses, individuals, talent & stakeholders within the creative industries
  • Creating and maintaining a monthly digital content, social media, web and events calendar
  • Building relationships with and collaborating with comms & marketing contacts at our CoSTAR Network Lab partners - Foresight Lab, Live Lab, Realtime Lab and Screen Lab and our funders, Arts & Humanities Research Council
  • Providing regular digital analytics and competitor monitoring reports 
  • To research, create and circulate a monthly external newsletter to the CoSTAR National Lab subscriber database and a monthly internal newsletter for the CoSTAR National Lab team
  • Supporting the Head of Marketing and Communications to deliver the CoSTAR National Lab marketing & communications strategy and core activities across all communications touchpoints – web, digital, social, CRM, PR, Press, Internal Comms, External Comms

You should apply if you:

  • Can demonstrate experience in creating innovative and engaging visual and A/V content for digital platforms using Apple / smartphones, videography equipment and editing using the latest software packages e.g. Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, PremierPro 
  • Would enjoy the challenge and buzz of working for the new CoSTAR National Lab in R&D for the Creative Industries with world-leading higher education institutions and industry partners
  • Have a experience & understanding of posting & analysing digital & social media content
  • Enjoy generating new promotional, comms & content ideas to promote the new CoSTAR National Lab
  • Have a positive ‘can do’ and solution-focussed approach with the ability to multi-task different projects and priorities as well as working well as part of a team
  • Can showcase previous experience in creating written content for multiple digital platforms for PR, Internal/External Comms, web and social media
  • Shows a keen interest in emerging technologies, research and innovation

This is a full time, permanent role available from early/mid May 2024. This post is based in Egham, Surrey, but with expectation of significant working time at the CoSTAR National Lab which is being built in the region.
