Joint Centre for Excellence in Environmental Intelligence (JCEEI)

The University of Exeter and the Met Office launched a Joint Centre to realise mutual advantages in the field of Environmental Intelligence. As a new field of knowledge, Environmental Intelligence uses the power of data science and artificial intelligence to transform understanding of the natural environment and provide a step-change in our ability to develop solutions to environmentally related challenges. The Joint Centre provides a hub for cutting-edge research and training that builds on existing strengths both at the University of Exeter and the Met Office and is spearheading the development of Environmental Intelligence and promoting the UK as a global trailblazer in this new field.

The JCEEI is led by two Co-Directors, one from University of Exeter (UoE) and one from the Met Office, reflecting the equal contributions made by the two partners in establishing the Joint Centre. 

We are seeking to appoint a new Co-Director, to provide continued academic and managerial leadership for the Joint Centre and to promote UoE interests in this exciting developing partnership. Co-Director will be accountable for the successful delivery of the Centre, its programmes and activities. They will oversee the technical and programme management aspects of the Centre and help to shape and translate the strategic direction set in conjunction with a high-level Steering Committee into operational activities.  

Co-Director is expected to be a leading international authority in one or more fields relating to Environmental Intelligence. The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of innovative research and attracting major research funding as well as a track record of substantial engagement and collaboration with national and international academic and industry partners. They will possess in depth knowledge of specialism to enable the development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding in the field. They will display an understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture.
