Applications are invited for a full-time Scientific Associate who will be based in the Cancer Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (CMDL), Clifford Allbutt Building, Hills Road, Cambridge.

The pioneering Integrated Cancer Medicine Program (ICM) and the newly launched Mark Foundation Institute for Integrated Cancer Medicine (MFICM), currently running in the CRUK Cambridge Centre, bring together knowledge, expertise and emerging technologies to establish a personalised cancer medicine strategy that diagnoses cancer early and individually stratifies, treats and monitors all patients ( ). The CMDL, funded by NIHR-BRC and CRUK CC Integrated cancer medicine theme, is a key strategic resource for the ICM tasked with using cutting edge genomics methods for advanced diagnosis and clinical management of cancer at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre ( ).

The Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR-BRC) at the Addenbrookes campus in Cambridge is a leading site for experimental medicine research ( ).

Candidates are expected to have experience in all routine molecular biology techniques and tissue culture. Experience or knowledge of cancer genomics, next generation sequencing and ideally clinical diagnostics would be advantageous. Experienced applicants with either a PhD or equivalent relevant experience in molecular genetics, molecular biology, or genomics are encouraged to apply. Individuals registered with the HCPC as Clinical Scientists with equivalent research and development experience are also encouraged to apply.

The role holder will work in close collaboration with research groups at the CRUK CI and other institutions across the biomedical campus to introduce new molecular profiling assays which can be used in the clinic. The successful applicant will play a crucial part in consolidating CMDL and help coordinate processes for the group under the supervision of the Laboratory Director. This will require delivering a range of complex scientific work demanding skilled performance in lab work and taking responsibility for some areas of the service, as well as contributing to service development. The role will also require becoming proficient in and actively developing the laboratory information system currently operational in CMDL (Achiever Medical).

The CRUK funding supporting this position is available until 31 March 2022 in the first instance.
