The School of Psychology’s Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP) is looking to recruit two clinical tutors (lecturers) in clinical psychology who will contribute to the Clinical Psychology Doctorate (ClinPsyD) and other postgraduate courses in applied psychology delivered within CAP.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and innovative team of academic and practitioner psychologists working on the highly reputable ClinPsyD programme, which began in 1967. The ClinPsyD enjoys the benefits of being based in the Centre for Applied Psychology in the School of Psychology, which is one of the strongest and most active psychology departments in the UK, with an excellent reputation for teaching and research across all areas of contemporary psychology. The clinical doctorate programme is well integrated with clinical psychology services in Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country, where clinical psychology is a strong and well-developed profession.

The successful candidates will be involved in the clinical placement-related aspects of the course including, placement planning and organisation, liaison with local services and supervisors, supervisor training, and appraising the clinical and academic progress of our clinical psychology trainees. The post-holders will also take responsibility for developing and delivering specific aspects of training / teaching within the ClinPsyD to include the delivery of high-quality, research-intensive, inclusive teaching in their areas of specialty. In addition, clinical tutors contribute to the marking of academic work of trainees. Opportunities to support trainee research projects will also be available.

The appointees will have a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or an equivalent qualification) and hold professional registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist. They will be able to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to outstanding postgraduate teaching and learning, have teaching experience in clinical psychology (or relevant teaching at postgraduate level or in professional practice), and have established skills and experience of working in clinical settings. Applicants will be able to demonstrate emerging academic leadership and management skills appropriate to their career stage and will be expected to contribute to the management, leadership and enterprise activities of the programme and School, as appropriate. We welcome applicants who have established experience as clinical psychologist practitioners as well as those more recently qualified.

Whilst expertise in any core clinical specialty and theoretical model is welcome, we especially encourage those practitioners who, in addition to a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, hold Full Accreditation with the BABCP for cognitive and behavioural therapies and / or have accreditation with the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice and/ or who utilise psychodynamic models / theories as core to their clinical practice.

The post will be based in the Centre for Applied Psychology at the University of Birmingham. The Centre for Applied Psychology is staffed by Clinical, Forensic, and Research psychologists who support a broad range of teaching and research including Professional Doctoral programmes in Clinical, Forensic, and Forensic-Clinical Psychology.  We also provide an MRes in Clinical Psychology and an MSci Psychology and Psychological Practice, as well as a range of other accredited programmes leading to qualifications in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). Members of staff hold a number of research grants and PhD studentships with a wide range of research interests in applied areas. The Centre for Applied Psychology and the School of Psychology provide excellent systems for support and staff development.
