About the opportunity
Take part in the world's first randomised, placebo-controlled study of decompression surgery for central lumbar canal stenosis- SUcceSS: Surgery for Spinal Stenosis.
To see how important the removal of bone and ligament is, the SUcceSS team are performing a study that compares two types of spinal surgery; one that includes bone and ligament removal and another that does not (placebo). The results will allow us to determine if the removal of bone and ligament during surgery (decompression surgery) is effective for the treatment of lumbar stenosis or not.
The University of Sydney is looking to employ a Clinical Trial Coordinator to oversee the large multi-site clinical trial the 'SUcceSS study", coordinate all sites, staff, and reporting requirements and assist with the setup of 2 further clinical trials. The incumbent will be working in close collaboration with the Chief Investigator- Professor Manuela Ferreira and will be based at the Royal North Shore Building No.6 Kolling Institute in St Lenard's.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Contributing to research and clinical trial activities
- writing ethics applications, designing research protocols
- undertaking core aspects of research and clinical trial activities, and contributing to data entry and analysis
- assist the coordination, management, and conduct of clinical trials (including the SUcceSS clinical trial) under the supervision of the Chief investigator
- resolves complex matters related to the clinical trial(s) and draws on extensive clinical trial experience to provide sound advice and recommendations
- undertakes appropriate research procedures in accordance with relevant ethics protocols
About you
- Bachelor's degree - In a clinically relevant field
- extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions, and grant applications
- experience in a research-intensive environment
- experience in carrying out scientific literary searches and preparing literary reviews for further analysis
- experience liaising with participants/patients and health care professionals
- experience working in the human clinical trial environment
- working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation
- proven experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/ budget tracking, and managing invoice payments and purchases
- previous experience in clinical trials and coordination skills.
