An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the Clinical Skills Technician Team within the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC), part of the Institute of Education in Medical and Dental Sciences within the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition (SMMSN). Our institute is home to a vibrant team of academic, administrative, and technical staff who support the undergraduate Medical, Dental, Physician Associate and associated Post-Graduate programmes. Equipped with the latest technology and clinical simulation equipment, the CSC provides a safe environment for staff and students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, to experience and practice their skills both in the centre itself but also in satellite locations e.g., simulation ward area in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Our technical team is central to the organisation and support of this teaching and all the activities, courses, programmes, and examinations that take place in the Clinical Skills Centre and the Simulation & Training Centre. The Centre also hosts a wide variety of postgraduate educational and national events, unlike other teaching areas within the wider University, teaching at Clinical Skills is delivered all year round.

The technician team also support all the informal opportunities for student learning and practise of skills that take place out-with formal course teaching. The work centres around the following areas:

  • Preparation of rooms and equipment for Clinical Skills Teaching for MBChB, PA BDS programmes
  • Preparation of rooms and equipment for external Post Graduate clinical teaching and examinations
  • Appropriate allocation of clinical skills equipment relative to the type of activity being undertaken
  • Routine maintenance and preparation of teaching materials and simulation equipment
  • Ensuring stock levels of equipment are maintained and where there is a shortfall highlight ordering required.

The CSC is also home to our patient partner programme team who train and support around 200 volunteers who attend the facility to help with the clinical skills teaching.

The post holders will need to possess an enthusiasm for supporting teaching activities while working as part of a team. Good organisational skills and a positive, problem-solving outlook on life. The successful applicants will develop strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders including the University teaching team, other administrative staff in the Institute, the patient partner team and NHS colleagues within Grampian and Nationally throughout the UK.

You will be based within the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare, located on the Foresterhill Health Campus, part of the Institute of Education in Healthcare Medical Science.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 3 salary scale, £22,681 - £25,138 per annum, pro rata and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
