School of Medicine

Here is a rare opportunity for an exceptional clinical academic to join our strongly collaborative, inter-disciplinary group and engage in internationally leading child and adolescent psychiatry research at Cardiff University in partnership with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.  You will join the new £10 million Wolfson Centre for Young People’s Mental Health which sits in the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences (DPMCN), home to an internationally leading academic child and adolescent psychiatry section.  The new Wolfson Centre offers unique opportunities for the clinical academic to capitalise on nation-wide research resources; it hosts the all Wales Schools Health Research Network (Social Sciences, Cardiff University) that collects comprehensive data on pupils across every secondary school in Wales and SAIL (Swansea University) which hosts primary and secondary care health, education and social care data on the whole population of Wales.  The post holder will also benefit from Centre/Academic Section research collaborations with leading international and national scientists.  Our research covers population mental health, genetics, interventions, digital psychiatry and schools-based research.  A unique feature of the Centre is that it provides mechanisms for rapid translation of research findings into policy and practice and evaluating the impacts of policy change via a newly government-university joint funded link post.

The post-holder will carry out world-class research relevant to young people’s mental health and develop and lead a programme of research aligned to the aims of the Wolfson Centre and DPMCN (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section).  Clinical activity will be based at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.  You will be a scholar of significant repute with a proven ability or strong potential to lead and develop internationally excellent research activity.  You should be able to demonstrate an effective collaborative work ethos, the ability to attract independent, peer-reviewed research grant funding in open competition, a proven track record of high quality publications and if at Reader or Professorial level, a strong track record of doctoral and Early Career Researcher mentorship.  You will be registered with the GMC, eligible to practice as a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist in the UK and also undertake clinical duties commensurate with a clinical academic post within Aneurin Bevan University Health board (Gwent).

Should you possess a track record of international academic excellence, combined with an inspirational, collaborative and inclusive leadership style and the drive to foster and exploit local, national and international collaborations then please contact Emma Meilak ([email protected] ) to arrange informal and confidential discussions.  Additional details about benefits of working at the Centre are included in the brochure accompanying the post https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/wolfson-centre-for-young-peoples-mental-health/about/clinical-vacancies .  In brief these include, a Clinical Fellow (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) affiliated to the post-holder, the simultaneous recruitment of a clinical academic child and adolescent psychologist working in the same health board and access to Centre funded PhD studentships.  The post holder also will have the opportunity to recruit academic child and adolescent psychiatrist trainees via the Wales Clinical Academic Track fellowship scheme that provides training from entry through to CCT and includes a salary funded 3-year PhD Training Fellowship.  The Division/Section has a strong track record of attracting psychiatrists to academic child and adolescent psychiatry.

This post is full time (37.5 hours per week), open-ended and available immediately.

Salary: £79,957 - £103,806 per annum (Clinical Consultant Grade D6)

When submitting your application for the post, please state which level (Clinical Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professor) you wish your application to be considered for.
