We are looking for a Clinical Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary clinical research group, at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN), working principally on “myasthenic disorders”, including fetal, childhood and adult myasthenia gravis and genetic forms of myasthenic syndromes. The successful candidate will be required to register for a DPhil at the University of Oxford. The project focusses on a rare but potentially important area of maternal antibody-mediated disorders affecting both the unborn and children long-term. The project will combine clinical studies with immunological tests on the maternal sera. We welcome applications from trainees in paediatrics, paediatric neurology, neurology, obstetrics, immunology or general medicine who have an interest in autoimmunity, neurology, obstetrics and/or neurodevelopment.
Some of the responsibilities of the post include obtaining ethics for the project; identifying mothers whose children had signs of neuromuscular or muscle disability; participating in clinical activities; comparing clinical data; developing and conducting clinical and laboratory studies; and drafting research articles and reviews for peer-reviewed journals.
We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic post-foundation stage (or equivalent) clinician, ideally with general neurology or paediatric training, with an interest in myasthenic or neurodevelopmental disorders and autoimmunity.
Successful applicants will be required to hold an honorary clinical contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and must ensure that they have fulfilled all the criteria required.
The successful candidate will hold a medical degree with current full GMC registration, hold MRCP or equivalent (or be due to achieve that), have evidence of appropriate clinical skills, and have training number in a relevant clinical specialty (or a clear pathway to achieve one). Clinical knowledge in paediatrics or adult neurology or other relevant specialty at, or close to, registrar level, is desirable.
Please see the below 'Job Description' for further details on the project, responsibilities, and selection criteria, as well as further information about the university and how to apply.
This post is full time and fixed term until 30th September 2026.
Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 29th January 2024 will be considered.
Interviews are expected to be held as soon as possible thereafter.
