Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatric Rheumatology

Updated: 24 days ago
Location: Liverpool, ENGLAND
Deadline: 03 Apr 2024

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to conduct research for a discreet project ¿ NEPHROTARGET: looking at Exploring Treat-to-Target (T2T) and Urine Biomarker Monitoring in Lupus Nephritis Affecting Children and Young People.

This research aims to enhance the T2T approach for Childhood-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (cSLE) by incorporating innovative urine biomarker monitoring, as cSLE patients have a high risk of renal failure and mortality. T2T approaches have shown success in reducing disease activity and serious complications in a number of conditions and are advocated in cSLE. However, it remains uncertain whether current `T2T targets¿ adequately capture lupus nephritis (LN) activity and treatment response. To enhance the accuracy of this approach for LN, we aim to incorporate the measurement of a urine biomarker panel alongside the T2T approach.

Funded by the Alder Hey Children¿s Kidney Fund, this role offers a unique blend of clinical and research responsibilities with the aim of improving outcomes for young Lupus Nephritis (LN) patients.

The post holder would undertake the post full-time (part time options available on request), with the post holder returning to full-time clinical training after the project ends.

You will have excellent attention to detail, with effective communication skills and a flexible approach to work.

You should have a MBChB or equivalent, and have completed FY1, FY2 and ST1 of paediatric training.

This post is available for from 1 September 2024 until 28 February 2025.
