Clinical Research Fellow in Adult Vaccinology

We are seeking an enthusiastic Adult Clinical Research Fellow to join our established adult research team in the Oxford Vaccine Group. You will work on vaccine and vaccine-related studies, including into COVID-19 and recently developed human models of typhoid and paratyphoid infection. This research is expected to lead to high quality publications and includes opportunities for suitable candidates to study for a higher degree (MD/DPhil). If the candidate is interested in pursuing an academic research career, he/she will be given the opportunity and encouragement to seek independent research funding and to develop a laboratory, clinical or a translational research proposal. The successful applicant will expand on recent research that has successfully developed safe, ambulant outpatient challenge models to study the pathophysiology, host-pathogen response, novel diagnostics and effects of vaccines on outcomes following human challenge with typhoid and paratyphoid.

The Oxford Vaccine Group undertakes vaccine research spanning basic science through to phase I-III clinical trials. Studies performed as part of the adult programme are directed by Professor Andrew Pollard, Professor Brian Angus, Dr Maheshi Ramasamy and Professor Matthew Snape. This post will be based at the Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, OX3 7LE.

The successful candidates must have a medical degree, be a GMC registered Medical Practitioner and have evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills. Management experience and experience of clinical research practice would be advantageous. These posts would be especially suitable for trainees in infectious or tropical diseases, medical microbiology/virology, immunology, gastroenterology or acute internal medicine, but would also be suitable for trainees in any other speciality, including general practice or on completion of core medical training.
