The University of Birmingham, School of Dentistry is looking to appoint a number of part-time Clinical Dental Tutors to teach clinical dental students in aspects of Adult Restorative Dentistry in Clinical Practice, or specific Specialty Teaching areas including fixed and removable prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, simulation environments and occasionally in other areas as required.
Main Duties
Teaching
- Clinical supervision of integrated adult restorative dentistry teaching in Clinical Practice, or specific Specialty Teaching areas including fixed and removable prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, simulation environments and occasionally in other areas as required.
- Simulation teaching, as directed by Specialty Teaching areas, utilising phantom heads in both the laboratory and clinical environments.
- To monitor student progress with clinical procedures and to intervene when appropriate.
- Participation in tutorials and lecture programme which may include development of new teaching materials as appropriate.
- Preparation of the required teaching material and conforming to relevant teaching policies, including those published by Specialty Teaching areas. To clarify these policies where necessary through discussion with the area concerned.
Successful applicants will be required to undertake clinical teaching and associated administrative duties as directed by the Head of School and the relevant academic leads. The demonstration of initiative in contributing actively to the continued development and improvement of the teaching programme is welcomed and expected.
Candidates will have full registration with the UK General Dental Council (GDC), be a team worker, meet the requirements for Occupational Health clearance and DBS screening and preferably have been involved in Dental Foundation Training (previously Vocational Training) and have some experience of teaching.
Candidates will have excellent communication skills, be capable of adapting to diverse environments including the clinic, classroom, lecture theatre, one-to-one situations and will be able to communicate with colleagues and students at all levels in a clear, effective and timely manner.
The Clinical Dental Tutor role must be available to work on site during annually published School of Dentistry term time (43 weeks per year).
At present we have vacancies for Clinical Dental Tutors to work on a Tuesday & Thursday, however, other days of the week may be considered.
