The University of Nottingham, School of Medicine, is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate as Clinical Associate Professor in Neurology, to assist with the development of internationally excellent research programmes, and that has a demonstrable impact on the care and wellbeing of patients. You will join a productive and supportive group of academics and researchers led by Professor Evangelou, Professor of Clinical Neurology. 

You will have a primary research commitment in conjunction with teaching and clinical service responsibilities and your research interests will align with departmental priorities including multiple sclerosis, gait disorders, brain trauma, Parkinson’s disease, neuroimaging and neuromodulation.

The post offers exciting opportunities to develop innovative collaborative research in neuroimaging with the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre that was recently awarded £29.1M to establish a national 11.7T human scanning facility and the well-established OPM-MEG system. There will also be opportunities to collaborate in research into neuromodulation and brain-body multimorbidity with the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (£23.3M), and in neurorehabilitation with the National Rehabilitation Centre (https://www.nationalrehabilitationcentre.nhs.uk/).

You will have a sustained track record in attracting research funding and shaping your discipline and achieving impact. You will have experience of undergraduate teaching and supervision.

The major purposes of this role are to:

• Contribute to the development of excellent research programmes aligned to the research strategies of the School of Medicine, Faculty and University.
• Attract external funding, support ECR fellowships to strategically grow clinical neurology research.
• Enhance the reputation and impact of the neurology research team.
• Contribute to the collegiate atmosphere of the Neurology team, School of Medicine, Faculty and University.
• Support curriculum delivery to our students.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The role is a clinical academic position with a 50:50 split between clinical and academic roles. You will be based within the Neurology department within the Mental Health and Clinical Neuroscience Unit, in the School of Medicine in the University of Nottingham and in the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s Queens Medical Centre Campus. It is a requirement that you maintain your GMC Registration with a licence to practice, entry on the Speciality Register and undertake clinical practice with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). You will be expected to fulfil NHS clinical service duties within your job plan as agreed with the Head of Service.

Candidates must hold a Higher Research Degree i.e. PhD/DPhil or MD/DM and full GMC Registration with a license to practice.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent role.
