This role offers the opportunity for some hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

It is expected that four days would be spent on-site/in the office with a day working from home to complete paperwork etc. depending on the work/projects at the time.

This new full-time post is available immediately on a permanent basis.

Summary of the role

This role will suit either an experienced Mechanical Clerk of Works or a time served Tradesman with a background in either, pipe fitting, ductwork installation, plumbing, air conditioning, gas fitting or similar and have experience as a team leader/foreman/supervisor and a desire to move away from the tools into a position with a broader overview.

The post-holder is responsible for the provision of site mechanical inspection services, quality control and commissioning on all estate projects. Such projects will include the construction of new build projects and extensive refurbishment works to decarbonise the estate as the University moves towards net zero in 2040. In addition, the Clerk of Works will be required to input into smaller capital refurbishment works and long-term maintenance projects.

The successful candidate will work within Estate Service, Engineering and Direct Works and alongside the Sustainability Team, Built Estate, Space Management and Administrative Teams, based at Streatham Farm, Streatham Campus, Exeter.

Working together within a small team of dedicated estates mechanical and electrical engineers implementing and delivering maintenance contracts, long term maintenance projects and capital construction projects.

The role involves close collaboration with other professionals within Estates, professional and academic services teams, stakeholders throughout the university and external consultants and contractors.
