We are seeking to appoint a Chief Technical Officer to Beautiful Canoe, Aston University’s Student Enterprise. Beautiful Canoe was set up as a way to address the need for Computer Science students to gain professional experience before joining the workplace. This is addressed in two ways. Firstly technical supervision to help students gain an understanding of software development through the whole life cycle. Secondly we also work with the students helping them develop their soft skills that are just as important in the professional workplace.

Beautiful Canoe is closely linked with the Department of Computer Science which delivers distinctive programmes at undergraduate and Masters levels that achieve some of the highest employability rates for CS graduates in the UK. The department values impactful research and staff expertise includes AI, robotics, machine learning, natural language processing, HCI, computing education, digital health, software engineering, and cyber security, often spanning discipline boundaries. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and oversight of all software development projects and systems at Beautiful Canoe, Aston University’s software development student enterprise. This will involve ensuring the strategic technical objectives of Beautiful Canoe are effectively operationalised. The post holder will provide technical direction and work in a largely independent manner, organising and prioritising the work of the Technical Team, in order to achieve Beautiful Canoe’s objectives.

You will have a degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and/or a career providing equivalent experience.
