JOB OVERVIEW

The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at International Foundation Year (Pre Undergraduate, level 3), in the Centre and via online teaching. We are looking for candidates with a range of experience in delivering Chemistry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of Subject and/or Subject Lead.

Durham University International Study Centre programmes cover the following subject areas:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering modules (online and face-to-face) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the development of modules.
  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
  • Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to subject

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a relevant subject (essential)
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable)
  • A recognised teaching qualification (desirable)
  • Teaching experience delivering Chemistry programmes within a Further Education or Higher Education context
  • Experience of working with international students online and face to face (Desirable)
  • Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc)
  • Confident practitioner online (e.g. use of Teams/Zoom) and face to face
  • Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
  • A student-centred approach
