We have a new opportunity for a Change and Improvement Project Manager to work as part of the Parasite and Microbes Operations Team , this role is focussed on identifying and implementing projects of change within the research Programme that enable faculty to maximise their research agendas. The challenges are varied in scope and nature and offer an exciting opportunity for someone to engage in this dynamic environment.

The Role:

The role brings together the skills to identify areas for improvment, shape the improvement and implement the necessary changes to realise the anticipated benefits.  You will work as part of the Operations Team in a dynamic, service and continuous improvement culture. 

About you:

You will be required to engage and collaborate with many other teams, and so good communication, influencing and collaboration skills are essential. You will ensure that your projects deliver effective change across the Programme whilst meeting quality standards synonyms with good project management practice.


Essential Skills

Technical Skills:  

  • Experience of delivering successful projects using either a ‘waterfall’ or ‘agile’ methodology 
  • High level of IT skills including an advanced knowledge of the MS Office Suite – especially MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint and also the G-Suite of applications and process mapping software 
  • Experience in operational process design and improvement e.g. LEAN

  • Results driven with a proven track record of delivering to timelines and milestones across a variety of projects and subject matter 
  • Develop and maintain project records to a high standard (accurate, timely and current) and which stand up to the scrutiny of audits, including ‘Project Initiation’ documents, funding requirements, resourcing and with supporting communication plans 
  • Highly organised with the ability to work and adapt in a fast paced and constantly changing environment 
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity and flexibility and drive continuous improvement 
  • Strong and effective communicator at all levels with excellent interpersonal skills - verbal, written, presenting, one-to-one, stand-ups 
  • A good facilitator throughout and able to take stakeholders/users on the journey to success 
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts/competing demands, remaining objective at all times 
  • A trusted and respected resource who is highly collaborative and displays professional courtesy at all times 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a part of the team 
  • Demonstrate commitment and determination throughout 
  • Motivate, encourage and inspire others. Mentor team members and stakeholders as required 
  • Excellent problem solving skills - able to break down complex issues and work through to resolution with appropriate options analysis and assessment processes 

Ideal Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Project Management qualification, e.g. APM, PMP®, Agile Project management, Prince2® 
  • Experience of both ‘waterfall’ and ‘agile’ methodologies and adoption of these as relevant to the project 
  • Good understanding of Project Management software 
  • Understanding of the charitable sector and knowledge of a scientific research environment
