Role summary
Birmingham Business School is seeking to appoint a Professor in Accounting to provide leadership in accounting research, teaching, and impact within the School.

Within the School, the Department of Accounting is a dynamic team of scholars producing internationally excellent research and providing outstanding teaching for our students.  We deliver a BSc Accounting and Finance and an MSc Accounting and Finance, attracting high quality students and consistently performing very strongly in student satisfaction ratings.  We also have a thriving community of PhD students, who are actively involved in the research life of the Department and School.  Department members conduct research across a wide spectrum of accounting topics, with particular focus on interdisciplinary approaches to research.
We welcome applications from scholars with research and teaching interests in accounting, including (but certainly not limited to) social and environmental accounting, critical perspectives on accounting, interpretive accounting research, and interdisciplinary perspectives on financial accounting, management accounting, and taxation.  

 

Role description
Main Duties 

In collaboration with colleagues in the Department and School, develop, plan and lead high quality research activities in accounting.
Contribute to the development and delivery of the Business School’s portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a focus on research-led teaching to inspire and engage students.
Develop and lead collaborative working arrangements with colleagues across the Department, School and wider University to deliver outstanding research and teaching.
Provide leadership around the generation of research income, working with colleagues to develop high quality proposals for externally funded research.
Provide leadership around maximising the societal impact of research, collaborating with colleagues to generate and evidence impact.
Publish high quality internationally recognised research outputs.
Actively participate in development of the School’s research agenda.

 

Person Specification 
Outstanding and sustained international research and education profile, evidenced by a substantial record of international quality outputs and achievements.
Proven ability to develop and deliver innovative research-led teaching.
Significant experience of developing high quality proposals for external research funding.
Track record of successfully supervising doctoral students.
Enthusiasm for translating research into clearly evidenced societal impact.
