About CFI
Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) provides a Centre of Excellence for the application of science, technology and other areas to law enforcement particularly through niche areas of forensic science and security studies. For years, CFI has been a home for innovation, expertise, and a strong centre for student community. Cranfield University in conjunction with matched funding from South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) have recently invested £7.2 million into the latest forensic equipment, teaching spaces and continued recruitment of experienced and industry relevant academic staff. This means that 2021 will be a new and exciting year for CFI.
About the Role
You will be responsible for the technical operations of the two Forensic Laboratory buildings, co-located on the Cranfield Campus. One building houses the analytical laboratories and the second deals with the Investigative Sciences and crime scene activities covered by a wide range of taught Masters Degrees, Doctoral students and academic staff research. You will expand the current technical team and will support teaching and research projects, working collegiately with academic, research and technical staff within the Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) and the wider University. The tasks will vary widely, and so candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills, have a ‘can-do’ attitude and be able to work to tight deadlines as part of a team.
You will deliver flexible premier technical support to Cranfield Forensic Institute stakeholders, utilising specialist technical skills to aid the delivery of funded research work and teaching and working in partnership with technical colleagues of all levels to ensure effective operation of the Centre as a whole.
About You
You will have a first degree in a relevant scientific discipline or recognised and substantial technical expertise in a relevant area, acquired over a significant number of years.
In addition, you will have sound technical knowledge through experience of a scientific or technical discipline along with a working understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures.
In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key position, and to support world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.
