Centre Manager - Isambard AI

Are you prepared to lead the charge and propel innovation forward as our next Centre Manager?

As the Centre Manager, you'll be at the forefront of managing not only the current Isambard projects but also leading future initiatives at the Bristol Centre for Supercomputing (BriCS). Your role will be instrumental in nurturing these projects to success, leveraging your expertise to develop and maintain vital relationships with key stakeholders. You'll have the exciting opportunity to forge strategic partnerships that not only benefit the University but also foster impactful collaborations within the broader community.

At the heart of this role is the responsibility for ensuring the seamless development and expansion of our AI technology, High-Performance Computing, and Data Science programs. You'll be the driving force behind ensuring that all necessary support systems are in place, navigating the complexities of our environment with skill and determination.

  • Strategic Leadership: Direct the management and coordination of AI technology, High-Performance Computing, Data Science, and service programs to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Effective Communication and Planning: Ensure transparent engagement with stakeholders while overseeing project planning, implementation, and analysis for committees.
  • Strategic Planning and Collaboration: Develop plans, identify commercialisation opportunities, and foster industry collaborations to propel projects forward.
  • Risk Management and Financial Oversight: Mitigate project risks, manage operational budgets, and ensure compliance with financial standards.
  • Team Management: Work closely with the Centre Director and the CTO to oversee the smooth running of Centre facilities and manage support staff (currently recruiting) for comprehensive team support.

Candidates must possess:

  • Project Management Expertise: Experience in managing large research projects and their budgets, ideally involving multiple organisations and stakeholders. You'll navigate professional, legal, and regulatory requirements with ease.
  • Organisational Skills: Demonstrate excellent organisation and project/program management skills. Thrive in dynamic environments, proficient at planning, prioritising, and meeting deadlines. Additionally, you must be proficient in managing diverse activities, from budgeting to logistics, to effectively respond to evolving needs in the AI and High-Performance Computing programmes at the Centre.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to draft project reports and papers, develop and implement business plans, and monitor and review project progress effectively.
  • Analytical Skills: Showcase proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities, essential for navigating complex challenges.
  • Qualifications and Experience: Hold professional qualifications or a degree, coupled with significant experience in a relevant role. Alternatively, extensive relevant work experience will be considered.

Work pattern: Full-time, flexible work patterns from 0.8FTE will be considered.

Grade: K

Salary: £48,350-£54,395
