The School of Computing is seeking to appoint a lecturer who is committed to excellence in teaching and research to complement the School's existing research strengths in Artificial Intelligence or Data Science.
In this role, you will be required to teach at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to make a significant contribution to the School’s high level of student engagement.
The appointee will be part of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics research group . The AIDA group has ongoing research activities in machine learning (including natural language processing), robotics and applied data science. A particular characteristic of the group is an extensive engagement with industry and other external stakeholders to solve real world problems, especially related to healthcare and ageing using state of the art AI and Data Science.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with relevant background to support research in one of our priority areas:
- Robotics
- Natural Language Processing
- Theory of Machine Learning
As a Lecturer in Computing you will:
- Undertake teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including the development of new modules and supporting student learning.
- Deliver and develop excellent teaching and learning support material across a range of modules to achieve the highest standards of student experience in a variety of settings.
- Undertake research of the highest quality within the School of Computing to enhance the University’s next REF (Research Excellence Framework) submission.
- Develop further skills in, and knowledge of, teaching methods and techniques.
To succeed in this role you will have:
- A first degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
- PhD in a discipline relevant to Computer Science (completed or near completion).
- Experience of teaching computing at higher education level
- The ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn
- Ability to make a strong contribution to the research undertaken in the School in an area relevant to the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Research group
