We have a superb opportunity for a Catering & Events Manager to join our team at Birkbeck, University of London. You will be required to handle a variety of events, tasks and catering opportunities with a personable nature and can-do attitude.

Birkbeck currently operates 3 cafés, a bar and restaurant located within the central London campus. We also offer hospitality to events and conferences. With excellent planning and organisational skills, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the operation within budget and with bags of energy, confidence, and problem solving skills. As Catering & Events Manager, you will:

  • lead and motivate the Birkbeck Catering team, building a collaborative, positive culture and ensuring excellent customer service is provided
  • develop, manage and monitor catering budgets and prepare regular reports on catering performance and event management
  • drive the business forward through product selection, promotions and plan and deliver high quality hospitality events
  • develop and approve innovative, cost effective and creative menus for the restaurant, cafes, bar and hospitality and assist the Head of Food and Beverage at Birkbeck in all aspects of the catering operation.

In order to be successful in this role, you need to have:

  • significant direct staff management experience within catering, including managing a restaurant and kitchen or bar operation, team building skills and experience of delivering high profile hospitality events
  • financial acumen with a great business sense
  • highest standard in Food Safety and exceptional knowledge in licensing and catering policies and procedures.

Remuneration

£42,365 rising to £48,424 per annum (Grade 7) on Birkbeck's London Pay Scale.

The salary quoted includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.

Terms and Conditions
