Job Profile Student Support - Careers Service
Contract Type Fixed Term

Job Purpose

To be responsible for supporting and providing BPP students with outstanding career guidance.

To provide key services to students at the BPP Birmingham centre, including one-to-one appointments & drop-ins (in person and online), responding to CareerHub questions, quick queries, and document reviews; and supporting similar provision at other centres as required.

Job Background

Maternity Cover (February to November 2022) 0.8 FTE.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 8th December and Thursday 9th December.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing one-to-one appointments & drop-ins (in person and online), responding to CareerHub questions, quick queries, and document reviews
  • Delivering a range of careers workshops, employer events, fairs and other activities, both within academic programmes and independently.
  • Assisting in the development of printed and online guides on a range of careers and employability issues
  • Providing the highest standards of customer care always
  • Working closely with other members of the Careers Team and wider Employability Service Team to share knowledge and best practice as well as ensure a consistent service is provided
  • Developing and review teaching and learning resources on a range of careers and employability issues, for students on Law and Business programmes
  • Maintaining awareness of current developments in relevant subject areas
  • Flexibly approaching your workload and undertaking any other duties as required
  • Accurately recording data on services provided and producing reports and statistics when needed

Evening work will be required occasionally, for which TOIL will be provided.

Candidate Criteria

  • Experience of working within a university Careers Service, careers guidance services or graduate recruitment, together with an understanding of the relevant job markets and employer selection practices
  • Highly motivated with experience of delivering services on a one-to-one basis as well as to groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidence in dealing with difficult or sensitive situations professionally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of direct work with employers, including successfully delivering events
  • Ability to work well on own initiative as well as part of a team while meeting strict deadlines and under pressure
  • Ability to adhere to defined policy and procures
  • Understanding of the need to share knowledge and build relationships within a team
  • Evidence of using technology in careers guidance, advice and information and in supporting the student experience

The successful candidate will be required to under an enhanced DBS Check.
