An exciting opportunity has arisen to drive the future of both masters and undergraduate careers management and employability for all three colleges; Business and Social Sciences, Engineering and Physical Science and Health and Life Sciences . Aston University are looking to recruit a motivated Careers Consultant who will proactively design and deliver bespoke employability strategies working collaboratively with their careers colleagues. There will be an expectation that virtual delivery will play a major part both now and continuing once we are past the current pandemic situation.

We are seeking an experienced HE career professional committed to:

  •    delivering guidance to a diverse and demanding postgraduate student population 
  •    innovate to challenge our current practice and maximise impact for our students and stakeholders
  •    learning from the best postgraduate careers work in the UK and globally and applying new and different at Aston
  •    building and managing relationships internally and externally. 

You will enhance students’ graduate career prospects and the student experience through employability initiatives both embedded in the curriculum and through wider project work, provide CEIAG in 1-2-1 consultations and through group interventions both face to face and virtually for all students both UK and Internationally domiciled.

Aston has a diverse student population and, as such, you will be expected to understand the labour market at a local, national and global level in order to equip students with relevant job hunting expertise. A sound understanding and experience of working with international postgraduate students is key.

You will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent IT skills and the ability to work within a team and on your own initiative. You will be able to prioritise your work, plan in a methodical and organised way, often working to tight deadlines at pace and in line with academic regulations. 

Working closely with academic colleagues in the colleges to prepare students to develop professionalism and employability skills.

The successful candidate will have substantive HE experience in a similar role underpinned by professionalism, student focus and confidence whilst multi-tasking in a busy environment. You will be educated to degree level as a minimum and ideally possess a postgraduate qualification in professional careers guidance or Postgraduate Certificate (or above) in Learning and Teaching within Higher Education.
