Cambridge Cardiovascular Research Centres Manager (Fixed Term)

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 06 Jun 2022

The University of Cambridge was ranked the world's second-best university in 2019 by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, with a reputation for research excellence across a broad range of disciplines. The University has identified cardiovascular disease as a major research priority, and established the Cardiovascular Strategic Research Initiative (SRI) in 2013 to provide central coordination. In 2019, the SRI became an Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) with additional responsibilities. Additional to the IRC, Cambridge hosts two British Heart Foundation funded research centres: the BHF Centre of Regenerative Medicine (CRM) and the recently renewed Cambridge BHF Centre of Research Excellence (CRE).

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and highly organised person to manage 'Cambridge Cardiovascular' that contains the above Centres. They will need to be able to work independently and will manage the day-to-day operations of the Centres, including recruitment; finance; event organisation; drafting annual reports and other documentation; and leading communications (newsletters, websites, social media, public engagement). They will support the Centre Directors and Steering groups and will be involved in strategic planning and forming close partnerships with other cardiovascular research hubs in the UK and internationally.

This role will be key to the success of the Cambridge Heart and Lung Research Institute that opened in 2022. The candidate must have a degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a PhD is desirable. They will have experience of working in a busy management role, preferably in a university or research environment, together with excellent communication skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office. Experience in the University finance system and website management platform are desirable. Accuracy and attention to detail are particularly important in this role, as is the ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise multiple high-importance projects, and meet deadlines.

Informal enquiries about these posts can be directed to the IRC and CRE Director, Professor Martin Bennett ([email protected] ) or to the current manager, Dr Tammy Dougan [email protected]

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2024 in the first instance, but possible extension for up to 5 years depending on renewal of the centres.

Please ensure that you upload a covering letter and CV in the Upload section of the online application. The covering letter should outline how you match the criteria for the post and why you are applying for this role. If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application.

Please include details of your referees, including e-mail address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager.
