This position will involve working closely with the Business Engagement Manager (BEM), Project Manager, and Technical Officers, to engage SMEs into the project, managing the resultant relationships for UoB/SME research collaborations that develop, ensuring eligible project outputs are monitored and collected, and the communication of information, guidance and regulations to project participants.

The post holder will also contribute to the planning of events and meetings and assist the Project Manager in the successful delivery of these activities; specifically, the promotion and delivery of business seminars and workshops, practical demonstrations, e-marketing and other promotional material focused on informing SMEs of the objectives of the AMCASH2 project. They will assist in attracting and engaging regional SMEs through activities such as: direct calls and site visits, organization and hosting of workshops and events, attendance at industry focused external conferences/ events. This work will build and maintain effective internal relationships, including those with groups in Commercial Development, RIS, and with academic groups active in materials, engineering and modelling research.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Qualified to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications), in a related engineering or science discipline.
  • Documented experience of undertaking business development with clearly identifiable contributions to influencing the commercial success of activity.
  • Excellent communication skills: oral, written and presentational.
  • Demonstrable ability to summarise complex issues/ concepts and present them appropriately for a range of audiences.
  • Proven ability to plan, manage and prioritise own workload, respond to changing priorities and deliver innovative solutions to deadlines maintaining a consistently high standard of service and meeting client needs.
  • Demonstrably excellent client relationship management and interpersonal skills and an ability to work closely with stakeholders at all levels of seniority
  • Proven ability to analyse business needs and identify business solutions utilising a range of technologies, summarising key points to internal/ external people at all levels of seniority.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the higher education research environment, its research functions and markets, knowledge transfer practices, funding streams and motivations.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement processes or procedures improvements.
  • Proven ability to understand and work appropriately to complex regulations.
  • Documented experience in a business engagement or technology consulting / industrial / commercial environment with senior level interactions with client organisations, ideally SMEs.
