Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £31,406 to £40,927. With potential progression once in post to £43,434

Job Summary

The Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technician will work within the BIM and Digital Assets Team, being responsible for the upkeep and development of BIM models for Operational use and Estates/Asset Management. The BIM models maintained are used to produce drawings, spaces data and asset data used across all aspects of estates and an exceptional eye for detail and appreciation of excellent drawing and model quality control is crucial. This role is key to supporting the progressive attitude of the department, and the overall adoption of BIM information across the department.

The BIM and Digital Assets team are responsible for the delivery and management of several functions. The team manages the Estates Departments’
•    BIM – Building Information Modelling processes and models, both through Capital Delivery and maintenance of the models;
•    Drawing production from BIM models and other sources;
•    Document and Information Management processes;
•    Innovation Management, with focus on systems and increasing the efficiency of the Estates department and related university functions and;
•    Space Management, for space data management and space utilisation across the university. 

The postholder will use/develop in-depth knowledge of the systems and information management processes utilised within a project and asset management environment. 

Main Duties

Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technician

The post holder will:

•    Use In-depth up-to-date specialist understanding to update information contained within BIM Models and related systems
•    Be responsible for ensuring the availability and accuracy of the models and ancillary documents into the various Estates Systems
•    Lead on the production of drawing sets and presentation visuals for aspects of the Estate
•    Ensure updates to drawing and models are kept up to date from multiple sources.
•    Be an authority on the development of drawings and develop working practices and processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of models and drawings.
•    Monitor the effectiveness of working practices to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
•    Develop customer requirements for drawn/modelled information ensuring the solutions meet the need. 
•    Support the implementation of the UoB BIM Requirements and Information Management Requirements and suggest updates as required during projects, providing updates where required. 
•    Support successful collaboration on the Common Data Environment (CDE) and support successful processing of information through workflows. 
•    Work to ensure that data systems are fit for purpose and are used effectively to optimise functionality and efficient reporting.

•    To carry out such other duties as required by your line manager or the Estates Directorate. 
•    To adhere to the University and Estates Office Policies, Procedures and Guidelines. 
•    To adhere to the University information security policies

Full competence for a Building Information Modelling Technician will be demonstrated by delivery and: 

•    Must have expert knowledge and proven capability of BIM and CAD including Revit
•    Proven capability of the use of Revit for MEP systems
•    Able to develop relationships in the workplace with colleagues in the Estates Office, across the University and with customers/clients to achieve objectives.
•    Take responsibility for own development of skills and knowledge.
•    Use a variety of methods to identify, collect, record and communicate technical and other information in an effective manner.
•    Must have PC experience in Windows environments, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and working knowledge of Web-enabled applications, database software and web based collaboration tools. 
•    The ability to work on and prioritise several concurrent projects, to tight time scales with a determination to deliver projects on time to the necessary quality, and to the satisfaction of Users.
