The University of South Wales is one of Britain’s most exciting and ambitious universities and a major player in the UK higher education sector.
Our vision is to change lives and our world for the better. With over 25,000 students, we are innovative, thriving and sustainable aiming to build better futures for our students, our communities and our partners economically, socially and culturally.
USW is a multi-disciplinary university with a strong track record for its partnerships, widening access, student success, applied research and innovation. The University has two wholly owned subsidiaries, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and The College Merthyr Tydfil. Recent achievements include being shortlisted for University of the Year 2023 at the Times Higher Education awards.
The University is seeking to appoint a number of exceptional individuals to join its Board of Governors in 2024.
The Board of Governors carries the ultimate responsibility for the University’s educational character and mission and oversight of its activities, including the overall strategic direction and for the management of our finances, property and setting a framework for the pay and conditions of staff.
The University is looking to appoint governors with expertise in one or more of the following areas: property, higher education executive leadership and law. The University is also
seeking a ‘governor apprentice’ who, although established in their career and capable of contributing to corporate governance, does not have previous experience of doing so.
The majority of governors also serve on a committee of the Board, which will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
USW is wholly committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities who can make a significant contribution to USW’s future direction would be welcome.
Applications from women, Welsh speakers and disabled applicants are particularly welcome, due to current
underrepresentation on our Board.

To express an interest or receive further information, please contact the University’s Governance Unit. Email: [email protected]
Intending applicants should submit a CV and covering letter.
Remuneration: unpaid (reasonable expenses will be reimbursed)
