Applications are invited for a Biomedical Research Technician position in the group of Dr Maria P. Alcolea within the Wellcome ¿ MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) based at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This represents a collaborative effort with Prof. Phil Jones at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. This role offers the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team building on previously published work on epithelial stem cell biology and early cancer.

We are looking to recruit a Biomedical Research Technician to co-ordinate all aspects of the mouse colonies, along with individual researchers and the PPL holder in the team. The successful candidate will perform in vivo mouse work (such as overseeing multiple transgenic strains, administering various treatment protocols and interventions as well as tissue collection and processing) supervised by researchers in our research group. Good communication skills are key as the candidate will liaise with the NACWO's, NVS and HO inspector regarding mouse colonies, animal welfare and regulatory compliance along with individual researchers and the PPL holder. The role holder will also be involved in other research tasks, such as genotyping, staining, imaging, culturing of tissues (mouse and human), as well as keeping detailed records of the data and work undertaken.

As such, the candidate should have good interpersonal and organisational skills, paying close attention to detail. Other responsibilities include a range of tasks to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory, such as ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, and maintaining and updating protocols and reagent databases. An understanding of the principles of cellular and molecular biology and basic knowledge of computational experience would be desirable.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
