The post holder will encourage bid and R&D grant activity, focusing on increasing application quality through the delivery of expert guidance on the full range of pre and post award activities, with the ultimate aim of ensuring the smooth passage of grant applications from initial idea development to award and delivery.

Reporting to the Funding Lead, in this role you will ensure that bids are prepared and submitted, and projects are administered in a consistent and competent manner. Main tasks include:

  • Preparation and submission of bids (T&Cs, costing, staffing, VAT guidance), including major research and commercial project funders
  • Undertake wide range of activities, including gathering intelligence, bid development and review, managing related approval processes
  • Advising on costs and providing budget oversight, trouble-shooting and financial reporting, and signposting academic staff as appropriate
  • Facilitating engagement with other offices responsible for ethics, research governance and contracts, etc. and any other approvals
  • Facilitate the collection of required information in the development of the bid from project collaborators/partners
  • Establish the framework for key financial and technical reporting for each awarded contract to hand over to project lead to deliver. This includes highlighting key elements of the reporting requirements for the different awarded contracts
  • To ensure compliance with QA standards it is important that projects (pre and post award) are actively managed, with a variety of actions required
  • Aid in the training of staff to use internal systems to promote and support bid submission in SRUC/SACC
  • The post holder will provide support in the development and delivery of large collaborative projects and large commercial/ consultancy type projects
  • Some travel to other SRUC locations may be a feature of this role

To be considered for this role you should have proven experience (ideally in a research led HEI) drafting and submitting bids with familiarity of standard research contracts and T&Cs. Experience of major research/ commercial funders funding tools and frameworks is critical as well as undertaking project coordination / management. This includes bidding and delivery of large collaborative projects (ideally international projects) and/or large commercial/ consultancy type projects.
