Cardiff School of Engineering is looking to recruit a Research and Development Graduate Engineer (also known as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate) for an exciting KTP project on Autonomous Robotics and AI for Digital Twins in support of Smart Bridge Surveying.

Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects provide an opportunity for graduates to undertake strategic projects in a partnership with universities and industry. The role thus offers an opportunity to work directly with industry and develop research and commercial skills. It is a great chance to manage a challenging, real-world project and to implement strategic development within an innovative company.

The successful candidate will play a key role in transferring the academic knowledge related to autonomous systems (aerial drones), computer vision, deep learning and IoT-based smart sensing to our industrial partner, with the specific aim of gaining access to current and emerging technologies in autonomous connected systems in support of developing leading-edge Digital Twins for Smart Bridge Structure Surveying. The associate will be instrumental in assisting Centregreat Rail (CGR) Ltd to automate and digitalize the survey process using autonomous drones, imagery data, and IoT sensing by developing functions of 3D model reconstruction, data processing, visualization and so on.

The post is full-time (40 hours per week) and fixed-term for 36 months. The Associate will be employed by Cardiff University and located in Centregreat Rail (CGR) Ltd at Cardiff.
