Associate Tutor in Philosophy

We have an excellent opportunity for one or more Associate Tutors for the following modules:

  • Political Power (Level 5/6) – upper-level undergraduate module in political philosophy, teaching 10 weeks of one-hour seminars in Term 1 (3/10/22 – 16/12/22, including a Reading Week) on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm (following the lecture at 6pm).
  • Knowledge & Faith (Level 4) – first-year undergraduate module introducing epistemology, teaching 10 weeks of one-hour seminars in Term 1 (3/10/22 – 16/12/22, including a Reading Week) on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm (following the lecture at 6pm).
  • Phenomenology & Historicism (Level 5/6) – upper-level undergraduate module in continental philosophy, focused on Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty and Foucault, teaching 10 weeks of one-hour seminars in Term 1 (3/10/22 – 16/12/22, including a Reading Week) on Friday evenings at 7.30pm (following the lecture at 6pm).
  • Philosophy of Science (Level 5/6) – upper-level undergraduate module in philosophy of science, teaching 10 weeks of one-hour seminars in Term 2 (9/1/23 – 24/3/23, including a Reading Week) on Thursday afternoons at 3.30pm (following the lecture at 2pm).
  • Philosophy of Nietzsche (Level 5/6) – upper-level undergraduate module focused on Friedrich Nietzsche, teaching 10 weeks of one-hour seminars in Term 3 (24/4/23 – 7/7/23, including a Reading Week) on Friday evenings at 7.30pm (following the lecture at 6pm).

You will have knowledge of the relevant philosophical topic and methods, and experience of leading seminars for undergraduates in philosophy. You will be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).

Please note: A PhD by the start of teaching is desirable. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams.

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are:

  • Experience of leading seminars for undergraduate students in philosophy.

Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £54.10 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties (delete if multiplier is x2, leave in if x 2.5) in connection with the course.
