Associate Professorship (or Professorship) of Greek Language & Literature and Tutorial Fellowship in Classics

Magdalen College and the Faculty of Classics are recruiting an Associate Professor of Greek Language & Literature to start on 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This is a joint appointment: the person appointed to the Associate Professorship or Professorship will be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship in Classics at Magdalen College. Additional allowances are provided by the College including accommodation in College, or a housing allowance of £15,000 p.a. together with a study/teaching room in College and access to a Housing Loan Scheme. An additional allowance would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.

Applications are invited for the field of Greek Language & Literature, with a preference for the following: Greek Drama; the Reception of Greek Literature.  The successful candidate must be able to teach across the whole range of Greek papers on the Classics undergraduate courses at Oxford. The post-holder will give 16 hours of lectures per year, participate in examining, and play a full and active role in Faculty administration. For the College, the post-holder will give 8 hours of tutorial teaching each week during term time and share the organisation of the tuition and pastoral care of students studying Classics.  They will also be expected to participate in the administrative work of the College. 

Applicants should have the potential to enhance the high reputation of the Faculty of Classics in research, a proven record of internationally recognised scholarship and research appropriate to their career stage, and ability to provide an excellent standard of research-led teaching for both undergraduates and postgraduates, including the supervision of research students.
