The Department of Physics is seeking to strengthen our programme in Flavour Physics with the appointment of an Associate Professor or Professor in Particle Physics with effect from 1 September 2022. The successful candidate will also be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at St. Anne’s College, under arrangements described in the job description. The combined University and College salary will be in the range £48,114 to £64,605 per annum plus substantial additional benefits including a College housing allowance of £9,829 p.a., a research and tutorial allowance of £1,090 p.a. and an entertainment allowance of £450 p.a. An allowance of £2,804 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title. Full Professors also have access to further merit-based pay awards.
The Associate Professor will join a vibrant community of particle physicists addressing the most significant issues in understanding nature's fundamental laws in and beyond the Standard Model. These challenges include the mystery of flavour, the origin of the matter anti-matter asymmetry in the universe, the puzzle of dark matter and dark energy, and the stability of mass hierarchies. The purpose of this appointment is to recruit an experimental particle physicist who would join the LHCb experiment and take a leading role in the design and construction of the next generation of flavour experiments. The post-holder will work closely with particle theorists and experimentalists in the department involved in many of the leading experimental collaborations.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in experimental particle physics or a related subject, and will have a proven record of high-quality creative research in flavour physics at an international level. They will be an excellent teacher at the undergraduate and graduate level. They will be expected to develop a world-leading research programme addressing the fundamental challenges in our understanding of the laws of nature, to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to participate in the administration and governance of St. Anne’s College and the Physics Department.
