Role Summary
We are seeking a creative, thoughtful and collaborative colleague who will lead the development and delivery of a new Distance Learning Postgraduate Mental Health Programme. Once the programme is established you would also lead and support other education activities in the School of Psychology. We run a successful campus-based MSc in Mental Health (Youth/Interdisciplinary) and we are adding a complementary distance-learning programme to our course portfolio.
We will consider applicants with expertise in implementing and developing distance learning programmes. Indicative expertise includes understanding and/or experience of; distance learning pedagogy and educational leadership, innovative approaches to online assessment strategies, critical implementation of learning technology, leading accessibility in development and delivery of teaching and learning, leading student-centred approaches to Higher Education, and experience working with external distance-learning providers.
Discipline-specific knowledge in an area of mental health is required, and some alignment with one or more of our current Institute for Mental Health (IMH) themes and priorities is preferable. These are: suicide and self-harm; early intervention and prevention; innovation in policy, systems, and services; justice, equalities, and capabilities; mental health data science and epidemiology; multidisciplinary approaches to the neuroscience of mental health; psychosis and mood disorders, clinical trials, data science, experimental medicine.
We are a community of over 140 academic and research staff, and we support over 1300 students and trainees on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and vibrant teaching and research environment in which everyone can flourish.
We support a research culture where discovery and translation are intertwined. We offer state-of-the-art facilities for studying the human mind and behaviour at many levels, and bring together like-minded colleagues via our centres and institutes to form collaborative teams.
Our IMH was initiated with a University investment of £2.3 million. We started a MSc in Mental Health in 2021 and the programme already recruits over 60 students per year. We are committed to research-intensive teaching and we combine interdisciplinary research with purposeful partnerships – academic, NHS, third sector - and critically, with our patients and the public. Our members come from academic fields including: psychology, psychiatry, philosophy, health economics, epidemiology, geography, neuroscience, public health, sport and exercise science, and social policy.
As a group, we have developed new methodological approaches, drawing on different disciplines, and shared ideas across new interdisciplinary groupings. We have recently attracted substantial funding to support translational mental health research via the Midlands Translational Mental Research Centre of Excellence, and the Wolfson Foundation. We are also a key partner in the Oxford Health NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.
