Join a unique British University in China. The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. This award-winning campus offering a UK style education has grown to establish a student body of over 8,000 in just 18 years.
A pioneer in Sino-foreign tertiary education, UNNC is rapidly expandingas part of the University of Nottinghams Global University. The institution seeks ambitious, talented academics with a flair for research and a passion for teaching to join its team of experts, offering unique teaching and research opportunities in a highly dynamic economy.
The School of International Communications is the largest school in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and now has an exciting opening for an Associate Professor in Media Production and Project Management to play a key role in helping to develop the next generation of global storytellers. Our school has recently advanced its audio-visual facilities to align itself more closely with industrial workflows and better support student progression into the creative industry. We seek to further develop these facilities, particularly with the procurement of additional high-end camera and lighting products. The candidate will therefore be a central stakeholder in identifying and teaching the use of state-of-the-art technology to support the school in its long-term strategy of establishing itself as an outstanding global educational provider of practice-based learning.
The ideal candidate possesses a PhD and has industry experience in either film, television or commercial production. They will evidence technical expertise in the operation of high-end industry cameras. Our schools current curriculum is theoretically focused on the context of the creative industry, so the post-holder should expect to teach both theoretical and practical content. As part of this role, it is expected that there will be a contribution to the schools research culture across the spectrum of theoretical perspectives and/or practice-based. The role requires the candidate to plan and develop external projects with governemnet and/or industry.
Moreover, the candidate is expected to contribute to the schools development and realisation of its first practice-based MA programme, with the post-holder ultimately at the centre of its delivery.
It is essential that the candidate is a team player and embraces a can-do attitude, as they will be working closely with colleagues on projects, as well as helping to sustain and foster new relationships both locally and globally. Most recently, our school has formed an exciting partnership with Ningbo International Short Film Festival, leading to a new student category being created.
Salary will be within the range of RMB 606,426 to RMB 720,242 per annum, depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including employment support allowance, schooling support, first arrival repatriation support, and international private insurance will be provided for international appointments. The post will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of up to five years. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
Informal enquires may be addressed to Dr Filippo Gilardi, Head of School of International Communications, email:[email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this address will not be accepted. Applications must be submitted on-line.
In applying for this role, please include a showreel of your work as a cinematographer/filmmaker, along with a Covering Letter and CV, which clearly specifies how you meet the above requirements, as well as the essential and desirable criteria.
