Criminology is one of four academic disciplines within the School of Sociology and Social Policy, the others being sociology, public & social policy, and social work. The disciplines share a core commitment to social justice, and the interplay between disciplines creates a vibrant environment for robust academic debate, research innovation and the delivery of high-quality research-led teaching.

The School, and in particular criminology, is going through a period of rapid growth and we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced mid-career scholar to join the criminology team. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of personal achievement and collegial leadership across research, teaching, and academic administration/leadership/management.

You will be expected to make a significant contribution to research, teaching and leadership within the criminology team and across the School. This will include: involvement in planning and delivering the high-quality education we provide for both UG and PGT students; involvement in high-quality research, including securing external research funding, publishing in esteemed outlets, and contributing to knowledge exchange and research impact activities; involvement in leadership and management, including providing support to early career academics, serving on School and Faculty committees, and leading on initiatives designed to support identified priorities.

We welcome applications from candidates with interests in any area(s) of criminology. You will be expected to have an impact on the direction, strategy, objectives, and performance of the University by influencing and shaping the available resources as appropriate to meet the current and future needs of the University of Nottingham, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the School of Sociology & Social Policy. We actively encourage people from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds to apply as the School is determined to provide a diverse and inclusive environment for staff and students which draws on the widest possible range of talents and backgrounds.

This is a permanent, full-time role (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours.

To apply please submit your CV (maximum 10 pages) and covering letter explaining how you meet the criteria set out in the role profile (maximum 2 pages).

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Mel Jordan, Discipline Lead for Criminology: [email protected] . Applications sent to this email will not be accepted.
