Job Title: Associate or Senior Editor, Communications Psychology

Organisation: Nature Communications

Location: London, New York or Berlin

Closing date: 05/06/2022

Nature Research is the world’s leader in publishing high-quality research from across the natural sciences. Its journals include Nature, the Nature Research journals, the Nature Reviews journals and Nature Communications.

Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn’t enough to sate your desire to learn more about the natural world? Do you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of Nature Communications.

Communications Psychology seeks an Associate or Senior Editor with a broad understanding of social or clinical psychology. This is a full-time position and will be located in our Berlin, London, or New York offices.

Communications Psychology will join the other Nature Portfolio journals in the Communications group, including Nature Communications and Communications Biology, in 2022. A fully open access journal, Communications Psychology will publish research and viewpoint articles across all areas of psychology, including clinical, cognitive, developmental, social, political, personality, organizational, comparative, and applied psychology. The journal will support scientific practices and champion publishing initiatives that promote open science. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who shares this commitment.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD (or equivalent) and preferably postdoctoral experience. Although all candidates will be considered, preference will be given to those with a background in social or clinical psychology. A keen interest in the practice and communication of science, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to absorb new ideas are essential. No prior editorial experience is required as full training is given, although applicants with significant editorial experience will be considered for a Senior Editor position.

The successful candidate will play an important role in determining the representation of their field in the journal, and will work closely with the other editors and editorial board members on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences, virtual and in person.

Applications should include the following:

1. A cover letter telling us who you are and why you want to become a full-time Nature portfolio journal editor.

2. A CV detailing your education, relevant training and employment, and any other activities that you feel demonstrate your suitability for the position.

3. A concise discussion (500 words) of a recent scientific development in social or clinical psychology, explaining why it is important for the field.

Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and should arrive no later than 5th June 2022.
